Board of Directors Board Development Committee Description
The PRCC Board Development Committee is established by and accountable to the Board of Directors. Its primary role, under the guidance of the Deputy Director, is to ensure that the board membership meets the needs and requirements of the organization through its ongoing recruitment and development efforts. Committee membership is limited to board members only and should be comprised of up to three to five members. The Board Development Committee should meet year-round.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Evaluate the needs of the board and develop a profile of the skills and talents needed to fill vacancies and to advance the organization
• Research, screen and recruit prospective board members
• Implement, along with senior staff members, board orientation
• Ensure that the board assesses its own performance at least annually and follow through to correct any weaknesses found, including any necessary training
• Review and suggest amendments to the by-laws
• Ensure written job descriptions for the board and its committees; confirm they are reviewed and revised as needed
• Develop advisory/honorary board or other such supportive groups as needed
