Message from José E. López, Executive Director of the PRCC, on the physical loss of Jonathan Rivera Lizardi

It is with our deepest sense of loss and with immense sorrow that we inform our—and his beloved— community of the passing of Jonathan Rivera Lizardi. Despite the often, immeasurable, challenges he confronted, Jonathan was one of the hardest and most dedicated community workers. He helped shape some of our most important projects. For more than a dozen years, Jonathan organized the musical talent for Fiesta Boricua. He was one of the founders of La Voz del Paseo Boricua, and blessed its pages with his ever creative and aesthetically pleasing design. With no remuneration, he also worked tirelessly in the branding of the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture and last fall created a poster about Oscar López Rivera that garnered national attention during the presidential election. As a matter of fact, there is no program or initiative of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center that Jonathan did not impact. He loved Paseo Boricua and lived full of Puerto Rican pride. We extend our sincerest condolences to his wonderful, loving mother, Ramonita Lizardi, who for many years worked in Chicago’s Puerto Rican community. Our sympathies are with his entire family. ¡Hasta siempre Jonathan! Oscar’s release will be your reward.
