Responding to Oscar Lopez Rivera’s call for action, several organizations in New York City came together to sponsor a demonstration on Monday, June 17 in front of the United Nations at Ralph Bunche Park. Almost 30 people chanted and proudly displayed Puerto Rican flags and banners demanding independence for Puerto Rico. Various organizations, including a Call to Action for Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican Independence Party- NY, National Boricua Human Rights Network-NY as well as individual activists were present. The group aims to publicize the US continued colonial stranglehold of Puerto Rico by demonstrating in front of the United Nations and urging that the general assembly deliberate the issue of Puerto Rico. It also aims to increase the broad-based educational campaign and mobilization to labor, faith-based communities, students, and others. Join us next August 17 at Ralph Bunche Park in front of the UN, from 5 to 7 PM. and help us make a difference.
