Community Celebrates Madeline Roman-Vargas’ Retirement from Humboldt Park Vocational and Educational Center (HPVEC)

On March 28th, 2014 more than 100 family and friends gathered at Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center to recognize Madeline Roman-Vargas for her dedicated service to the Humboldt Park Vocational and Educational Center. After 15 years, Madeline will retire as Dean of the Humboldt Park Vocational Center. Madeline was crucial to the founding, success and expansion of the Vocational Center, making it an educational pillar of the Humboldt Park community. A number of people spoke to thank Madeline for her extraordinary work including State Representative Cynthia Soto, President of Wright College David Potash, CEO of Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center Martin Judd, members of the Humboldt Park Vocational Center Advisory Board, and PRCC Executive Director José E. López. Educator Marie Concepción, who heads the HPVEC Advisory Committee, served as the M.C. The highlight of the evening was the Roberto Clemente Community Academy Steel Band as they played a number of tropical pieces. Madeline thanked all those that came to celebrate her retirement but stressed that she will continue to be involved in the community. She looks forward to this new phase in her life.
