50 Years of
Perseverance and Persistence
1973-2022 Fifty Years of Struggle
The 1980s began by increasing US government repression of the independence movement, the U.S. Navy’s bombardment & occupation of Vieques, the disproportionate rise of AIDS/HIV within our community, the 1980, 1981, 1983, and 1985 arrests of Puerto Ricans for struggling for Puerto Rican independence, grand jury witch hunts, and the torture of Control Unit Prisons. The PRCC struggles against these issues by organizing programs such as Vida/SIDA (Life/AIDS program), and Consuelo Lee Corretjer culturally informed Childcare.
