Vida/SIDA staff members and volunteers participated this Sunday, September 14, 2014, at AIDS Run & Walk Chicago 2014. The event took place at Arvey Field along the lakefront in Grant Park.
AIDS Run & Walk is a fundraising event part of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s Community Partner initiative. Ninety (90) percent of the funds raised by Community Partner organizations are returned to the organizations to fund their programs and services.
Vida/SIDA is half way in raising its goal of $5,000 to benefit the residents of El Rescate. El Rescate is a transitional living program for LGBTQ Youth 18-24 years of age. The funds will be used to pay for items and services that current funding streams prohibit i.e. toiletries, transportation costs, attorney and court fees for trans youth to change their name to match their gender identity and expression, etc.
Vida/SIDA wants to extend a sincere thanks to the walkers, runners, and fundraising contributors that participated this year in Team Vida/SIDA: Maria Borrero, Juan Calderon, Jorge Cestou, Rogelio Gomez, Zulema Gomez, Maya Lozano, Pedro Mercado, Jerry Rivera, Viola Salgado, Gustavo Varela and the Generation L volunteers.
