Teen Pregnancy Program
Message from the Program Coordinator, Janeida Rivera:
“Our Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program strives to engage youth in hands on, peer guided, culturally relevant programing. TPPP provides youth, 14 – 18 years old, with safe space to learn how to prevent the contraction of HIV, STIs and unplanned pregnancy. This program also engages young people of Humboldt Part with leadership opportunities during community building activities, followed by reflection, critical analysis of their participation in community service and service learning project completion.”
The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program provides culturally, developmentally and age appropriate teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and HIV/AIDS prevention services to Latino and African American adolescents and youth ages 14 -18 years of age who are in grades 9th – 12th. Program service are inclusive of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) youth. Youth will be offered a program called All4You! administered by Vida/SIDA’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPPP) through school or at our after school program located at Batey Urbano Youth Space in Humboldt Park.
As part of this program, students receive 26-hour education program to prevent HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STI) and unplanned pregnancy. The lessons give students the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from these problems. The program emphasizes that choosing not to have sex is the safest choice, but other methods of protection such as condoms are also discussed.
This program also involves students making 5 visits to a community organization to act as volunteers and gain experience by helping others. You will receive special field trip permission slips for these adult supervised visits.
The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program after school program component that will also offer students homework help, academic support, college readiness, job readiness skills and other positive youth development opportunities
