In the midst of a pandemic, Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos H.S. staff has found a way to keep 94% of their 200 students engaged in school. Through the efforts of teachers and a team of mentors using several social media platforms, students remain engaged in their classes while taking on work to support their families. The motivator and engineer behind this effort is Principal Dr. Melissa Lewis. Lewis said, “It is the healing center approach, and meeting the students where they are at that is making a difference.” The broadcast can be viewed on the WGN website entitled “Humboldt Park school helping students who are on verge of dropping out”.
